The Dirty War is a book that highlights the Algerian black decade of civil war through the testimony of a former officer in the Algerian Special Forces, Habib Swaidiah. The author lists numerous crimes against humanity committed by a special unit in an effort to combat terrorism in the Algerian army.
The book was very controversial and was received with anger from many Algerians as the author and the publishing body were seen to tarnish the reputation of the National People's Army.
